Scope and Content

This series consists of materials pertaining to education. Materials are divided into subseries based on their subject matter and arranged by alphanumeric subcode and thereunder by case file number. This series is divided into the following subseries:
  • ED (Education)
  • ED001 (Libraries-Facilities)
  • ED002 (Scholarships/Fellowships/Grants)
  • ED003 (Teachers/Teaching Methods/Educational Programs)

ED (Education) includes memoranda, news clippings, correspondence, publications, proposed legislation, speeches (and drafts thereof), talking points, reports, and fact sheets. The correspondence present is between President George W. Bush, Congress, and the general public regarding George W. Bush administration education policy. Letters written to President George W. Bush by students as part of class projects including many expressing sympathies after September 11, 2001, are also present in these files, as are thank you notes from President George W. Bush following education events, and in response to letters of support for his initiatives. Memoranda, correspondence, and reports to President George W. Bush cover topics such as literacy, teacher education programs, affordable vocational and collegiate tuition, school choice, education funding, special education, violence in schools, educational opportunities for minority students, Title IX, higher education, civic education, and background information for school visits. A significant portion of the materials in these files covers the implementation of No Child Left Behind (NCLB) including memoranda from White House advisors. Talking points, publications, and reports on the results of NCLB are present as well.

ED001 (Libraries-Facilities) includes agendas for education events, guest lists for National Book Festival events, and letters from students to President George W. Bush.

ED002 (Scholarships/Fellowships/Grants) includes mainly correspondence such as drafts of congratulatory letters to recipients of the Presidential Freedom Scholarship, response letters to public mail on various education topics, and letters from Congress about education initiatives.

ED003 (Teachers/Teaching Methods/Educational Programs) includes speech drafts, fact sheets, and drafts thereof for the White House Conference on Preparing Tomorrow's Teachers and the 2006 National Teacher of the Year award presentation
